This chapter feels like a classic mid-to-late Elbaph arc breather that still manages to deliver hype, emotional setup, and long-awaited reveals. It's not a mind-blowing "peak chapter," but it's solid and does important work for the story.

What Worked Really Well
1. Brook's Backstory Finally Begins
This is the biggest highlight. After years of waiting, we get the start of Brook's human past, and it's intriguing. Seeing 20-year-old Brook as the leader of a kingdom's battle convoy is a fantastic twist. It makes total sense with his swordsmanship and gentlemanly demeanor he wasn't just some random musician who joined the Rumbar Pirates; he was already a respected military figure protecting royalty.
The visual of young Brook's full face (no glasses, seeing his eyes for the first time, no head scar yet) hits hard. It humanizes him in a way we haven't seen before. The connection to Princess Shuri (who we now know becomes Gunko) at age 7 adds a tragic layer, especially with him suddenly fighting her in the present. Usopp prompting the flashback was a nice, natural touch.
Queen Candel sounds like a badass too former defense convoy leader and more famous than Brook. I'm excited to see how deep this Esperia Kingdom lore goes.
2. The Ongoing Loki vs Imu Fight
Imu dropping lines about Nika and Nidhogg dying "just like Dozan" is pure mystery bait. Whether Dozan is an ancient figure, a previous god, or something tied to Zunesha/elephants (as some theorize), it's effective world-building. Loki using Ragnir keeps the fight feeling massive and high-stakes.
3. Sanji in Action
Sanji arriving at Giant Village and immediately throwing hands with Zaza MMA (Rain God?) is peak "Wings of the Pirate King" energy. I love when Sanji gets serious fights that don't involve simping. Him breaking his usual "no fighting women" rule to protect kids (as mentioned in some summaries) shows growth.
4. No Break Next Week
Thank you Oda, we needed this.
Minor Criticisms
- The chapter feels a bit fragmented. We jump between Sanji's fight, the Loki/Imu clash, and the start of a flashback. It's classic One Piece multi-thread pacing, but some might feel it lacks a strong singular focus.
- We're still very much in setup mode for Brook's full story. This chapter mostly teases it rather than diving deep.
- "Dozan" is another name drop that will fuel theories for weeks, but right now it's just cryptic without payoff.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
This is strong setup chapter that finally gives Brook his flowers and deepens the Elbaph arc's connections between the present chaos and past histories. The Straw Hats' "Wings" (Sanji especially) getting shine, combined with massive Imu lore and the start of what could be an emotional Brook flashback, makes it feel like the arc is hitting its stride.
The reveal that Brook was this accomplished young warrior makes his tragedy with the Rumbar Pirates even sadder he had status and purpose, lost it all, spent 50 years as a skeleton, and is now facing his past through Gunko. That's peak One Piece emotional layering.
Prediction: Next chapter will probably go deeper into the flashback and show more of young Brook's relationship with Shuri/Queen Candel. Can't wait.
What did you think of the chapter? Excited for more Brook lore?
