Takehiko Inoue, the author of the popular manga series, tweeted the announcement, posting a video of a sketch that read, "Slam Dunk It will be a movie #slamdunkmovie." Despite the few details about it, the movie's official website revealed that Toei Animation has something to do with the film.
Toei Animation is in charge of the animation production for the 1993 anime series adaptation of the basketball manga. Does Harley Quinn's Solo Movie Stand Up To The Challenge?

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn had one long shadow out of which it needed to step: Suicide Squad. The movie, which gifted us with Harley Quinn, also gave her the albatross of a relationship with Joker and a subpar film through which her backstory was told. Now it's 2020, and this year belongs to the Birds of Prey. As was revealed in the trailer, the story follows Harley Quinn in the aftermath of her explosive break-up with the Joker. When Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, places a hit on the young Cassandra Cain, Gotham City's worst turn the city upside down looking for her. Out of necessity, Harley joins forces with Dinah Lance, Helena Bertinelli, and Renee Montoya in order to protect the girl and defeat Black Mask once and for all.

We use the word 'necessity' because this is definitely not a "girl power" film. These women aren't banding together out of a shared, well, anything – they just need to survive, or as Harley says, get their emancipation. And oh boy, do they ever. The film does well with the arduous task of explaining how we got where we are without being boring if you've already seen Suicide Squad. And if this is your first foray into the bizarre world Harley inhabits, you won't be disappointed. As the trailers indicated, the movie is definitely Harley's show, but that doesn't mean the other stars get the short shrift. Each character gets their action-filled background explained without being weighed down by a "now for some exposition!" moment. Those fretting that an all-women action movie would be dull (a baseless fear anyway) will be relieved to know that the action is as explosive as the trailer makes out. Birds of Prey is choreographed with its specific characters in mind – ie women. Things that might be a disadvantage are turned into strengths through the choreography. Each woman has their own unique skill set and way of fighting that feels realistic both to their being women, and because there is actual human effort put into the incredible stunts. And speaking of each woman, it's impossible to make a movie – especially a superhero movie – starring women without wading into misogynistic waters. Twitter has been rife with commentary around about the sex appeal – or lack thereof – of the characters. The "defence" of this clearly sexist argument (since when do women have to be 'sexy' to be... anything?) is that women want sex appeal in their films just as much as men. This isn't wrong (eye candy of all types is appreciated), but it also ignores the fact that this film has four exceptionally talented, strong, conflicted, nuanced, and, yes, beautiful women at its core (plus a child, so like... remember that when you start talking about sex appeal in Birds of Prey, everyone.) A foil for Birds of Prey is, as unlikely as it may seem, Charlie's Angels. Despite how much we enjoyed it, the Kristen Stewart reboot didn't do well at the box office in part due to the "social justice" marketing angle that obscured the movie's humour and action. Birds of Prey seems to have learned from that mistake, and though the movie is clearly about women teaming up, neither the marketing nor the film leans on feminism as a ploy or its perceived sole draw. It is first and foremost a neon-blood-soaked, funny, violent, anti-hero caper that stars women. But wait, there's more! It was directed by a woman and the screenplay was written by a woman. These factors mean Birds of Prey inherently carries a base level of authenticity without being heavy-handed, and the male gaze is happily obliterated in a technicolour firework display. And there's another thing to remember if you think Birds of Prey has suddenly gone "woke"... It's a DC Comics movie! There's a hyena named after Batman in it! The movie stars women and is uproariously fun.

Jurassic World 3 Casts DeWanda Wise

The third movie in the latest Jurassic Park trilogy is set to be released in 2021 and will see the return of Chris Pratt as Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing. It was recently announced that the upcoming Jurassic World 3 will feature old favorites Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Sam Neill (Alan Grant), and Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), but the exciting casting news doesn’t stop there. According to Variety, the film just cast DeWanda Wise, who is best known for starring in Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It, in a leading role. In addition to She’s Gotta Have It, Wise has also been seen in The Twilight Zone reboot, the Netflix film Someone Great, and has appeared in episodes of many series, including Boardwalk Empire and The Good Wife. Wise hasn’t posted about the casting news on social media yet, but you can follow her on Instagram here. The new dinosaur adventure film will see the return of director Colin Trevorrow, who also helmed Jurassic World before J.A. Bayona took over for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The upcoming movie was set up heavily by the events of Fallen Kingdom as well as the recently released short film Battle at Big Rock, which shows the state of society across the United States now that dinosaurs are roaming free on the North American continent. "Battle At Big Rock is a short film that takes place one year after the events of Fallen Kingdom," Trevorrow explained in an interview with Collider. "It’s about a family on a camping trip to Big Rock National Park, about 20 miles from where the last film ended. There have been a few sightings, but this is the first major confrontation between dinosaurs and humans." Trevorrow went on to explain that everything has been building up to Jurassic World 3, and that he's finally getting to make the movie he's planned on since he first got the gig with the first film. "The world is bigger than just the characters we’ve been following in the films," Trevorrow explained. "We’ve finally taken the story off Isla Nublar, we wanted to show a glimpse of that new reality. If this really happened, you’d see a series of random disconnected incidents that would create a pattern of chaos. I wanted to see one of those incidents."

Escape Room 2 Cast Announced

Earlier this year, director Adam Robitel's Escape Room proved to be a surprising success at the box office, despite it having been released in January, a traditionally poor month to release horror films. Between the film's box office success and narrative potential, Sony Pictures announced they would be moving forward with a sequel. Escape Room 2 has announced its cast, which Deadline confirms as being Holland Roden (Teen Wolf, Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block), Indya Moore (Pose, Queen & Slim), Thomas Cocquerel (Table 19, The 100), Carlito Olivero (East Los High, Step Up: High Water), who will join the previously announced Isabelle Fuhrman, Taylor Russell, and Logan Miller. In the original film, an intriguing invitation bring six strangers together. Initially, they think they have gathered for a highly immersive escape room, but they soon make the sickening discovery that they are pawns in a sadistic game of life and death.

Together, they move from one terrifying scenario to the next as they find clues and solve puzzles. But the players soon learn that exposing their darkest secrets may hold the key to survive. The sequel was originally slated to hit theaters in August 2020, only for reports to surface that its release was delayed until November of 2020. Deadline, however, claims the film is still set for an August release. Robitel is returning to direct the sequel, having teased to ComicBook.com earlier this year his plans for a follow-up adventure. "At the end of the day, it is about strangers in a room getting killed," Robitel shared. "There's a formula that can work. But you gotta work twice as hard each movie to reinvent the wheel but you also have to be mindful of giving the audience what they really liked about the first movie." He added, "It's a tricky rope to walk, for sure. As you said, we did fire, we did ice, we did gravity, we did gas, so coming up with other ways to slice and dice the players is tricky because the last thing we want to do with the franchise is to rely on reverse bear traps and so forth. That was done so well with Saw and that's not our franchise. So yeah, it is challenging, but if there's a will, there's a way. I can't talk too much about it, but I think we have a cool way into the sequel that I think will be exciting and expands Minos mythology a little bit without going too far. We'll see, it is tricky."

Superman's Secret Identity To Be Revealed to the World (Again)

Superman is going to speak his truth - so says a new promo DC Comics has released, in order to announce the next big development in Superman comics. That development will be Superman finally revealing his secret to the world: that Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same. It's a move that DC has explored before in both 1991 (Superman revealing his secret to Lois Lane) and 2015 (Lois revealing Superman's secret to the world via a newspaper article), but comic book retcons later reversed the latter reveal, returning Superman to a life of dual identities. However, Superman writer Brian Michael Bendis is about to put an end to that era. Here's what Bendis revealed about the milestone reveal taking place in Superman #18 on December 11th, during an interview with the New York Times. "On some level, this is what DC brought me here for. I didn’t want to stir things up right away. I had to earn my place." Some fans are understandably skeptical about this move, as comic book publishers are fairly notorious for introducing major status quo changes in order to drum up publicity and sales around property, only to eventually drop those big changes entirely, and revert back to the original state of affairs.

However, Bendis promises that this won't be the usual temporary switch tactic comics are known for: "I don’t do fake-out stories," Bendis said. "I did a story where Daredevil was outed — a different kind of outing — but that was his reality for 15 years... We wanted to do this because behind it is 1,000 brand-new Superman stories that have never been told." Bendis goes on to say that the change will also bring Superman to "the best version of himself," and that he and other DC writers Matt Fraction and Greg Rucka are already laying down hundreds of pages of story for this new era of Superman storyelling. January will also feature a two special issues of Superman that will show just how major this change is to the character and the larger DC Universe. "Everybody who’s ever been in contact with him is going to have a completely different perspective and reaction to this," says Bendis. "Some heroes are going to be thrilled, some heroes are going to be livid, some villains are going to change their ways." The final tease is how Superman revealing he is Clark Kent will affect the latter's employment status as a professional journalist. According to Bendis: "Excellent question," Bendis said. "And I promise you that is the first thing that Greg Rucka stormed up to me with when we started working on this."

Marvel Releases X-Men Trailer

Marvel’s X-Men relaunch Dawn of X is here. The flagship Dawn of X title, X-Men by Jonathan Hickman and Leinil Francis Yu, launches this week. The series picks up after the game-changing events of Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X miniseries. Now Marvel has released a new trailer to get fans excited about the new series. In X-Men, with the island nation of Krakoa is established, the X-Men are free to forge their own path in the world. All mutants are living under one flag – and any of them can be called upon to join the X-Men on a mission to keep Krakoa safe and prosperous. The series will feature a rotating cast of characters both heroic and villainous, mainstays, fan-favorites, and obscure. "When people ask Hickman who is in the book, he says everyone," Marvel editor-in-chief CB Cebulski said during the Dawn of X panel at New York Comic Con. "This is the book that anyone can show up at any time in this book.

Cyclops is going to be putting together various teams for whatever mission comes up, and this is endless action.” “Jonathan is one of the most skilled writers in the comic book industry for sure. He comes up with enormous ideas and he is incredibly good at executing them perfectly on the page,” editor Jordan White says in the trailer. “Series artist Leinil Francis Yu is a phenomenal talent. He has an incredible eye: staging is wonderful, his character designs are cool. I love working with him. He’s fantastic,” says Hickman.” X-Men is the flagship title of Dawn of X, but there are five other ongoing series launching with the first wave of Dawn of X. Marauders by Gerry Duggan and Matteo Lolli sees Kitty Pryde leading a band of pirate X-Men backed by the Hellfire Trading Company to protect mutants around the globe. New Mutants by Hickman, Ed Brisson, and artist Rod Reis sends the younger generation of mutants to outer space. Fallen Angels by Bryan Edward Hill and Szymon Kudranski follows Psylocke, Cable, and X-23, three mutants who don't fit in with the new status quo for mutants. Finally, Benjamin Percy and Joshua Cassara's X-Force follow the intelligence and special ops wings of the mutant world. Marvel also announced at New York Comic Con that a new Wolverine solo series will launch in February, continuing the Dawn of X relaunch.

Ryan Reynolds Will Star in Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 is waiting for the green light from Marvel Studios. The screenwriting team of Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick are preparing for a new movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular anti-hero. The recent merger between Disney and Fox has led to speculation that Deadpool will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the writers insist that 'there's a lot to be sorted out' before shooting on the third movie can begin.

He WILL be back: Deadpool 3 is waiting for the green light from Marvel Studios. The screenwriting team of Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick are preparing for a new movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular anti-hero. Seen with wife Blake Lively in 2018 Speaking to website Den of Geek, Paul said: 'We're just waiting for the word from on high. 'There's a lot to be sorted out, like how Deadpool fits into the Marvel Universe with the other characters of the MCU. 'Then it's, do the X-Men get in there at some point? Fantastic Four? There's a lot to be sorted out and I think we're all getting a much needed rest from Deadpool - Ryan and us and everybody.' Deadpool fans had been worried that the foul-mouthed hero would be restrained by Disney and it would be the end of the Rated R comic book films but CEO Bob Iger has insisted that the 'merc with a mouth' will stay the same and be adult-orientated and Reese has assured cinema goers that this is still their plan. Reese said: 'The promise is that there will be Deadpool. He will live in the R-rated universe that we've created, and hopefully we'll be allowed to play a little bit in the MCU sandbox as well and incorporate him into that. We've just got to land on the right idea and when we do, I think we'll be off to the races. 'We wake up thinking about Deadpool and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool, so there will be another Deadpool and we just have to make it the right way.'
